Jubilee 2006 celebrates the spirit of three of the founders of the Society of Jesus. This international Jubilee coincides with our celebration of 150 years of Jesuit education in Australia. These are some of the activities and events which are being held in the Australian Province to commemorate these special anniversaries:

Official International Eucharist for the Jubilee in St Peter's Basilica, Rome. Feast of Mary, Mother of the Society of Jesus. Mass will be celebrated by Superior General Fr Kolvenbach SJ. Pope Benedict will come to greet everyone. Chris Willcock SJ will direct the music and choir.

Jubilee Illustrated Display. The Jesuit Polish Centre of St Andrew Bobola is preparing a set of 20-door-sized panels to present the Xavier-Favre-Ignatius story with the use of about 70 photos, and notes in Polish and English. Pilgrimage to land of the Wurundjeri - A spiritual workshop at Healesville Sanctuary. Xavier, Favre and Ignatius saw themselves as pilgrims as they walked the lands of Europe and discovered their identity in God. This experience invites participants to walk the Wurundjeri native land with Aboriginal elder, Murrindindi, who will help us to understand the deep spirituality of his land and culture. JULY 1–9

Saveriadi Rugby Tournament in Rome. Xavier College students will compete against teams from Jesuit schools from Padua, Logrono and Paris, as part of the Italian Jesuit Province Jubilee celebrations.


JULY 18–AUGUST 5

Praying with St Ignatius by the Cardoner.  This program will take place at the site of Ignatius' early spiritual experiences at Manresa in Spain. It includes an 8-day silent retreat and a 4-day workshop on "Ignatius and Apostolic Outreach", exploring the connection between the Spiritual Exercises and social justice. Organised by the Australian Province Centres of Ignatian Spirituality (CIS).


JULY 25

Multicultural Day - Loyola College, Mt Druitt. Mass celebrating the multiculturalism of the school and of the first companions. Special emphasis on Ignatius and Favre as their feasts fall on July 31 and August 2 respectively. Jesuit Jubilee Conference - Evangelisation and Culture in a Jesuit Light, St Patrick’s Campus of ACU, Victoria Parade, Fitzroy. Jointly sponsored by Jesuit Theological College, Australian Catholic University and Melbourne College of Divinity. Keynote speakers are Dan Madigan SJ, Director of the Pontifical Institute for the Study of Religions and Cultures at the Gregorian University in Rome; Frank Brennan SJ, Institute of Legal Studies, Australian Catholic University; Romaldo Giurgola AO, architect, designer of the new Parliament House in Canberra and the new St Patrick's Cathedral, Parramatta; Rosemary Crumlin RSM, OAM, lecturer in the School of Arts and Sciences, Australian Catholic University; Andrew Bullen SJ, Rector of St Ignatius College, Riverview.

Xavier College will contribute by mounting an art display at the conference, made up of some of their major art works and the work of current students in relation to the conference theme. Prizes will be awarded for the best of the student works.

CLC Jubilee Experience of the Spiritual Exercises - All CLC (Christian Life Community) groups have been invited to have an experience of the Exercises to mark the Jubilee. This will involve a series of nine meetings beginning around the feast of St Ignatius (July 31) and ending around the feast of St Francis Xavier (December 3).
